The whole reason behind game testers is so that a developer/publisher can make sure their game is going to be distributed error free.  Does this always happen?  No.  Just check out this video:

You saw it, games like Bioshock, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty 4, and Halo 3 all released with major embarrassing glitches.

Companies spend millions of dollars and a ton of time to bring about a new video game.  Can you imagine the repercussions when the game has so many glitches gamers won’t play it?  Won’t buy it?  Will go online and rip it apart?  The consequences are tremendous.

This is clearly why game testers are an important part of the game development world.  I find it reprehensible when a game is released with bugs.  Especially big bugs that can actually be recreated for video!  If I was a tester on any of the games in that video, I tell you I would not tell people about it.

Just like with any job, you have to take pride in your work.  If you let a game go out with errors, that is on you and your team.  Do you want to be know as the tester who didn’t find out that Donkey Kong looks like he’s getting it on with another animal?  Well I don’t.

I just want every gamer to be aware that game testing is a real job, and has a very real responsibility to the gaming community.
