Get Your PS2 for $99!
Yep you heard it right, the price is being slashed effective tomorrow (Wednesday April 1st, 2009). Let’s just hope it’s not an April Fools Day joke!
Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America has been quoted as stating “Demand for PlayStation 2 remains strong throughout the world, and the new $99 price point will bring in new consumers who will discover how PlayStation platforms are an outstanding choice for their gaming and home entertainment needs.”
I guess it’s not going to kill them being they are still selling their PS3 for full price. I was hoping they were going to cut that console so many other gamers that I know have a chance to get one. But no such luck.
I think it’s good news for certain gamers, but the bottom line is that many games released for PS2 these days are really more family friendly. Many of the publishers that I favor have completely stopped making games for PS2.
Hopefully Sony Computer Entertainment America will see what gamers really want, which is a reduced cost on the NEWEST console, not the older one. But that’s just one gamer’s opinion.
