Are There More Women Playing Games?
So are there more women playing video games? Absolutely and a recent release of a study done by the NPD Marketing group confirms this. Obviously this is something that all of us gamers already knew. I mean get online and play COD4 and just listen to all the female players on the other end. Now we all know many times they get chewed out and are treated like meat, but the reality of it is this. More women are playing games and the trend grows larger and larger every year.
The NPD states that the percentage of console gamers who are female grew from 23 to 28 percent in 2009. Now they are attributed this to the Wii, but I think that downplays the significance of our ever changing world.
I know for a fact that World of Warcraft is a very popular game amongst women. I also tend to find that many women play more of these role playing type games than any other type of game.
You’ll also find that women are more into “casual gaming” such as Solitare, games on Facebook, etc.
With all of this coming to light, I think it’s important that the gaming companies see this as an opportunity to create even more female friendly games and increase their revenue. When I cruise the internet I see a lot of ranting and raving about women not having enough game options to choose from. We all know men and women are very different. As a men can totally get off on an First Person Shooter, a woman most likely will enjoy a good Role Playing game.
So the point to all of this? Let’s all acknowledge that no matter what sex we are, the love of gaming is something everyone has the right to enjoy. I almost feel like as I’m writing this post, it’s as if we haven’t gotten past the whole man/woman thing in our society. I thought we were way past that by now!

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
